What BLIK is
BLIK is Poland's mobile payment system. It was launched on 9 February 2015 by six Polish banks and is run by Polski Standard Płatności. The buyer takes a one-off six-digit code from their banking app, valid for two minutes, and confirms the payment in the same app.
The same codes work online, in shops and at ATMs, and BLIK also sends money to a phone number. Mastercard became a shareholder of the operator in 2020, the National Bank of Poland classified BLIK as a significant retail payment system in March 2023, and the first BLIK transaction in Slovakia was made in September 2024. Merchants accept it through a payment provider that offers it, which is how our checkout module connects to it.
What it does in your platform
Checkout
Lets Polish buyers pay in zloty on every merchant's hosted checkout, with a code from their banking app. The payment runs through your payment provider, and the buyer confirms it on their phone in seconds.
How the connection works
BLIK reaches the checkout through a payment provider that offers it. The checkout module talks to that provider's API, and the provider passes the code and the payment to BLIK.
The buyer picks BLIK
On the merchant's hosted checkout, for a payment in Polish zloty.
A code from their bank
The buyer opens their banking app and takes a six-digit BLIK code, valid for two minutes.
The code goes in
They type the code into the checkout, and the module sends it with the payment to your payment provider.
The buyer confirms
Their bank asks them to confirm the payment in the banking app, and they have about a minute to do it.
Your provider confirms
Your payment provider reports the result to the module, which marks the order paid and shows it in the backoffice.
The money follows
The funds reach the merchant through your payment provider's settlement and are matched in the ledger.
Next to other payment methods
BLIK sits in the checkout's bank payments, next to iDEAL for the Netherlands, Bancontact for Belgium and open banking through TrueLayer, Tink or Yapily. Polish buyers who would rather pay by card or wallet find those on the same checkout.
Your merchants integrate once with the checkout. Changing the payment provider behind BLIK is a configuration change, or a new connector, on the platform side, and it does not reach your apps.
When BLIK fits best
A strong fit when
- Your merchants sell to buyers in Poland, who pay in zloty.
- Your buyers shop on their phones, where a code and a confirmation in the banking app replace the card form.
- You want each payment confirmed by the buyer in their own bank's app, with the result back in seconds.
Also worth a look
- Cards and wallets, for buyers outside Poland.
- Open banking payments through TrueLayer, Tink or Yapily, for bank payments in other countries.
How we get you live
The payment provider
We help you switch BLIK on with your payment provider, or choose a provider that offers it if yours does not.
The payment page
We set up BLIK in the checkout with you: the merchants who offer it and the screens buyers see while they confirm in their app.
The keys
Your payment provider's API keys and webhook secret go into your platform's secrets and nowhere else.
A full test run
The whole flow runs in your payment provider's test environment, from the code field to the backoffice, before your first real payment.
