Who Upvest is
Upvest is an investment infrastructure company founded in Berlin in 2017. Upvest Securities GmbH is an investment firm authorised and supervised by BaFin, and Upvest Securities Limited is authorised and regulated by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority. It covers brokerage, settlement and custody, and can run the operations behind them.
Banks, brokers and wealth managers use its Investment API to offer real fractional investing, portfolios and savings plans in their own apps, under Upvest's licences or their own. That focus on European investors is why it is one of the brokers and custodians our portfolio module connects to.
What it does in your platform
Portfolios
Executes your investors' orders, including fractions, holds their assets and runs their savings plans, under Upvest's licences or your own. The module keeps positions, cash and corporate actions in sync through Upvest's signed webhooks and shows them as holdings, performance and statements.
How the connection works
One connector in the portfolio module talks to Upvest's Investment API. Every request carries an HTTP message signature made with a key held in the platform's secrets, and Upvest signs the webhooks it sends back.
The investor is onboarded
After your KYC checks, the module creates the user and their account in Upvest, in the account structure of your operating model.
An order goes in
The investor buys by amount, and Upvest executes it as a real fraction of the instrument.
A signed webhook arrives
Upvest reports the execution and settlement by webhook, signed under the HTTP message signatures standard, and the platform verifies it before updating anything.
The portfolio updates
Positions and cash update in the app, and dividends and other corporate actions arrive the same way.
Savings plans run
Recurring investments execute on their schedule, for single instruments or whole portfolios, and report back like any other order.
Next to other providers
Upvest sits next to Alpaca, DriveWealth, Interactive Brokers and Saxo in the portfolio module. It suits products built for investors in Europe and the UK; reference data providers such as Twelve Data describe the instruments, while Upvest's records decide what each investor holds.
The investor experience belongs to the module. Moving to another provider later leaves your app as it is; existing holdings move by transfer, which we plan with you.
When Upvest fits best
A strong fit when
- Your investors are in the EU or the UK and you want a partner regulated there.
- Fractional investing, portfolios and savings plans are at the core of your product.
- You want to launch under a partner's licences, or already hold your own and need the infrastructure.
Also worth a look
- Alpaca or DriveWealth, when your investors mainly want US stocks and ETFs.
- Saxo or Interactive Brokers, when you are a regulated firm looking for a multi-asset broker.
How we get you live
The contract
We help you get your Upvest account and contract in place, with the operating model that fits your licence and your markets.
The operating model
We set up the model with you: whose licences the service runs under, how accounts are structured, and which instruments, fractions and savings plans you offer.
The keys
The signing keys and API credentials go into your platform's secrets and nowhere else, and only webhooks with a valid Upvest signature are accepted.
A full test run
The whole flow runs in Upvest's sandbox, where test instruments simulate partial fills, cancellations and delayed settlement, before your first real investor.
