Who Solaris is

Solaris is a Berlin-based bank that launched in 2016 to provide banking services to other companies under its full German banking licence, supervised by BaFin. It was called Solarisbank until 2022, and Japan's SBI Group became its majority shareholder in 2025.

Software providers, accounting and ERP platforms, wealth managers, and travel and mobility companies embed its accounts, cards, payments, lending and identification under their own brand. In 2026 it announced, with SBI, a plan to develop this platform into pan-European infrastructure with largely AI-automated processes. It is one of the banking-as-a-service providers our Accounts & IBANs module connects to.

What it does in your platform

  • Accounts & IBANs

Holds your customers' accounts on its German banking licence, with local IBANs, SEPA Credit Transfers, direct debits, SEPA Instant and Verification of Payee. Your brand is on the app; Solaris is the bank behind it.

How the connection works

One connector in the Accounts & IBANs module talks to Solaris's API with OAuth 2.0 client credentials, and receives Solaris webhooks signed with an HMAC SHA-256 signature.

  1. The customer signs up

Your app shows the legal screens and collects the data Solaris requires, and the module creates the person at Solaris.

  2. Solaris identifies them

The customer completes one of Solaris's identification methods, such as video identification, and Solaris runs its due diligence checks.

  3. The account opens

Once the checks pass, the module opens the account and the customer gets an IBAN.

  4. Money arrives

Solaris books an incoming SEPA or SEPA Instant transfer and sends a BOOKING webhook. The module verifies its signature and posts it to the ledger and the customer's statement.

  5. Money goes out

An outgoing transfer waits for the customer's strong customer authentication through Solaris's change request process before Solaris executes it.

Next to other providers

Solaris puts a German bank behind euro accounts. The module talks to it through the same interface as every other banking partner, so the app, the ledger and the statements look the same whichever partner holds an account.

Changing partner later does not change the app, though customers get new IBANs under the new partner, a move we plan with you.

When Solaris fits best

A strong fit when

  • You want your customers' money held by a bank with a full licence, not an e-money institution.
  • You plan to add cards or lending from the same bank as your product grows.
  • You can build the onboarding screens and identification flow a regulated bank requires.

Also worth a look

  • Swan or Treezor, e-money institutions, when a banking licence behind the accounts is not required.
  • ClearBank or Griffin, for sterling accounts in the UK.

How we get you live

  • The contract

We help you get your Solaris account and contract in place, for the products you plan to offer.

  • The onboarding

We build the legal screens, data collection and identification flow Solaris requires into your sign-up, and subscribe to the webhooks Solaris makes mandatory.

  • The keys

The OAuth client credentials and each webhook secret, which Solaris shows only once, go straight into your platform's secrets.

  • A full test run

The flow runs first in Solaris's sandbox, from sign-up and identification to transfers in and out.

Questions

Asked about this connector.

How do we get started with Solaris?

Talk to us. We help you get your Solaris account and contract in place, build the onboarding Solaris requires into your app and test the flow in its sandbox before launch.

Who identifies our customers?

Solaris, as the bank. Customers complete one of its identification methods, such as video identification, inside your sign-up flow, and the result reaches the module by webhook.

Who handles strong customer authentication for payments?

Solaris does, through its change request process: an outgoing transfer waits for the customer's confirmation with strong customer authentication before Solaris executes it.

Who owns Solaris?

Japan's SBI Group has been its majority shareholder since 2025. Solaris holds its own full German banking licence, which is what your customers' accounts rely on.
