Who Dow Jones Risk & Compliance is
Dow Jones Risk & Compliance is the risk data business of Dow Jones, the News Corp company behind The Wall Street Journal and Factiva, whose history goes back to 1882. Its data covers sanctions and other restricted party lists, politically exposed persons with their relatives and close associates, adverse media, state-owned companies and companies owned or controlled by sanctioned parties.
Its profiles are compiled by a multilingual team of researchers and analysts and delivered through APIs, data feeds and the RiskCenter screening products. Financial institutions and corporates use it for financial crime, sanctions and third-party checks, which is why it is one of the screening sources our KYC / AML module connects to.
What it does in your platform
KYC / AML
Screens customers at sign-up against Dow Jones data on sanctions, politically exposed persons and adverse media, and checks companies for state ownership or links to sanctioned owners. Possible matches go to the module's review queue with the profile behind them.
How the connection works
The KYC / AML module sends screening requests to Dow Jones through its REST APIs, with the credentials kept in your platform's secrets. Dow Jones can also deliver its data as feeds, through cloud storage or Pub/Sub.
A customer signs up
The module sends the customer's name, date of birth and country to Dow Jones, under the screening parameters your compliance team chose.
Profiles are matched
Dow Jones returns the profiles that could match: a sanctions listing, a PEP role, adverse media or a link to a sanctioned owner.
Your analyst reviews
Each possible match goes to the review queue in the backoffice with its profile, and your analyst clears or escalates it. The decision is logged with who made it and why.
The lists keep moving
Sanctions, PEP roles and adverse media change, so the module rescreens customers on the schedule your policy sets, and new matches come back to the queue.
Next to other providers
Dow Jones is one of the screening sources in the module, next to ComplyAdvantage, LSEG World-Check and LexisNexis Risk Solutions. Matches from each source land in the same review queue, so your team works one list.
The review queue and the audit trail belong to the module. Adding Dow Jones, or moving to another source later, does not change your apps, and past results stay linked to the source that produced them.
When Dow Jones Risk & Compliance fits best
A strong fit when
- You want screening data compiled by a multilingual team of researchers and analysts.
- You need to spot companies owned or controlled by sanctioned parties, not only listed names.
- You screen companies as well as people, including state-owned companies.
Also worth a look
- A screening platform that also monitors transactions, such as ComplyAdvantage, if you want both in one place.
- A second screening source, such as LSEG World-Check, if your policy asks for two.
How we get you live
The contract
We help you get your Dow Jones Risk & Compliance account and contract in place, with the data sets your policy requires.
The screening parameters
We set the screening parameters with your compliance team: which lists and categories, how close a name must be, and when a match goes to a person.
The keys
The API credentials go into your platform's secrets and nowhere else, and every screening call is made from the platform, never from an app.
A full test run
Before go-live we screen a set of test names with known results, and check that every match lands in the review queue.
