Who ComplyAdvantage is
ComplyAdvantage is a financial crime risk company headquartered in London, with hubs in New York, Lisbon, Singapore and Cluj-Napoca. Its risk data covers sanctions and watchlists, politically exposed persons and their relatives and close associates, and adverse media.
On its Mesh platform it screens customers and companies, keeps monitoring them, and screens and monitors transactions, with cases and alerts for the team that reviews them. Companies use it to run their KYC, AML and sanctions reviews, which is why it is a connector in our KYC / AML and compliance reporting modules.
What it does in your platform
KYC / AML
Screens each customer against sanctions, PEP and adverse media data at sign-up, with the screening configuration your compliance team chose, and keeps monitoring them afterwards. Possible matches become cases in the module's review queue.
Compliance reporting
Checks transactions as they happen: Mesh screens the payment, runs its transaction monitoring and answers whether to hold it or let it through. Alerts become cases with the evidence attached, ready for a suspicious activity report if one is needed.
How the connection works
Both modules talk to the ComplyAdvantage Mesh API with credentials kept in your platform's secrets. Results come back in the API response, and later changes arrive by webhook.
A customer is screened
At sign-up, the module creates the customer in Mesh and screens them under your screening configuration, at once or in the background.
Hits become cases
If Mesh finds a possible match, it opens a case with alerts and risks, and the module puts it in your team's review queue with the matched profile.
A person decides
Your analyst reviews the match in the backoffice, and the decision is logged with who made it and why.
Monitoring continues
With ongoing monitoring on, Mesh keeps reviewing the customer against its latest data, and a webhook tells the module about new alerts. With signing enabled, each webhook carries an HMAC signature.
Payments are checked
When the customer sends or receives money, the compliance reporting module passes the transaction to Mesh, which screens it and answers hold or process. A held payment waits for your team's decision.
Next to other providers
ComplyAdvantage can be your only screening provider or one of several. In KYC / AML it sits next to LSEG World-Check, Dow Jones and LexisNexis; in compliance reporting, next to Chainalysis KYT and Elliptic for crypto transfers, and its findings add to your own monitoring rules rather than replacing them.
Cases, decisions and reports belong to the modules. Adding ComplyAdvantage, or moving away from it later, does not change your apps or your team's queue, and past results stay linked to the provider that produced them.
When ComplyAdvantage fits best
A strong fit when
- You want customer screening and transaction monitoring from one provider, on one platform.
- You want risky payments held before they go through, not only reviewed afterwards.
- You want your screening platform hosted in the EU, one of the regions ComplyAdvantage runs Mesh in.
Also worth a look
- A second screening data source, such as LSEG World-Check or Dow Jones, if your policy calls for one.
- A blockchain analytics provider such as Chainalysis or Elliptic, next to ComplyAdvantage for crypto transfers.
How we get you live
The contract
We help you get your ComplyAdvantage account and contract in place, for screening, transaction monitoring or both.
The configurations
We set up the screening and payment screening configurations with your compliance team: which lists, which risk scoring and which thresholds.
The keys
The API credentials and the webhook signing secret go into your platform's secrets and nowhere else.
A full test run
Before go-live we run test customers and test payments through both modules, from screening to the review queue.
