How Order Insight works
When a cardholder opens a transaction in the banking app or calls the issuer about it, the issuer's system asks for the details behind the payment. The merchant, or the provider acting for it, answers in real time with the order record: what was sold, the customer account, the delivery and earlier purchases.
Verifi describes three points at which the data is used:
- A digital receipt shown to the cardholder in the banking app or online portal
- Fuller transaction detail on the screen of the issuer's call centre agent
- Systematic dispute deflection: under Visa's Compelling Evidence 3.0 rule, data that shows first-party misuse blocks a card-not-present fraud dispute before a chargeback is issued
Who uses Order Insight
Merchants whose disputes start with a cardholder not recognising a charge: subscriptions, digital goods, gaming, travel. A merchant connects to Verifi directly or through a payment provider or a chargeback vendor, and needs a service that can return an order within moments of the request.
Visa lists Order Insight among the optional services of Visa Resolve Online, the platform issuers use for disputes. The service covers Visa transactions, and no money moves through it: a cardholder who still disputes the payment can do so.
Order Insight, RDR or an alert?
- Rapid Dispute Resolution
- Refunds the disputed payment automatically under the merchant's rules. Order Insight supplies information and refunds nothing.
- Compelling Evidence 3.0
- The Visa rule under which records of a cardholder's earlier purchases, never reported as fraud, can defeat a fraud dispute. Order Insight delivers that data before the dispute exists.
- Pre-dispute alert
- Tells the merchant that a dispute is coming so that the merchant can refund. Order Insight speaks to the issuer and the cardholder instead.
